ABOUT Jonathan

Jonathan Troll’s journey into photography began long before Broken Stinger. While earning both his master’s and doctorate degrees in psychology from Northwest University, Jonathan immersed himself in research that took him around the world. His academic work — rooted in the study of psychology and culture — led him to travel to Thailand, India, Brazil, and Kenya. He would later return to Kenya to conduct dissertation research, which focused on depression in children and adolescents in the Kangemi neighborhood of Nairobi.

During his time abroad, Jonathan developed a passion for photography. He began documenting the people, cultures, and landscapes he encountered. In 2011, after receiving approval to conduct his dissertation research in Kangemi, he purchased his first Nikon camera to document his trip. Since then, he has rarely traveled without a camera in hand.

Today, Jonathan Troll is a Pacific Northwest–based psychologist and international award-winning photographer. His work has earned recognition in leading global competitions, including the ND Awards, Chromatic Photography Awards, Monochromatic Photography Awards, and The Independent Photographer. He is dedicated to capturing the intersection of faith, adventure, and the natural world. Born and raised among the rugged landscapes of the Cascade Range and the nearby coast, he views his work as a medium to document the artistry of the Creator. Whether working close to home or traveling abroad, Jonathan’s photography seeks to preserve the intentional beauty of the world and the stories woven through it.
